2005 Michigan Licensure Survey
2005 Michigan Licensure Survey
In the summer of 2004, the Michigan Genetic Counselor Licensure Committee (now the Professional Development Committee of the Michigan Association of Genetic Counselors) decided to conduct a needs assessment survey of the state's genetic counselors and PhD medical geneticists. The goals of this assessment were threefold:
- To determine if Michigan genetic counselors and PhD medical geneticists support licensure;
- To uncover any misconceptions about licensure; and
- To gather opinions on specific issues related to licensure.
This survey sparked increased interest, awareness, and participation among the state's genetic counselors in the licensure process. The results documented significant support of licensure (95%) for genetic counselors in Michigan and have been useful in guiding Michigan's licensure efforts.
